Kite Surfing

Kite surfing is a quickly growing craze in the world of water sports. It is similar to windsurfing in that it uses the wind to pull the rider across the water. However, instead of using a sail to harness the wind, it instead uses a large kite.

The board used for kite surfing is not the same as for windsurfing. Kite boards are more akin to a wake board in design, being much shorter than windsurfing boards. They are also generally thinner in profile, allowing them to skip across the water.

Kite surfing was developed over the course of many years starting in the late 1970’s. However, it wasn’t until the 1990’s that the sport really made strides in popularity. By the turn of the century, the sport had grown exponentially.
