Kite Bar

The kite bar is essentially control mechanism for the kite surfer. It acts as a steering wheel of sorts, allowing the rider to alter their direction when needed. It also acts as the throttle as well.

A kite bar should always come equipped with a “deadman” system. These systems are basically a quick-release mechanism which can be employed to disconnect the rider from the kite in the event of an emergency. They are a safety mechanism that can save the rider from serious injury or death.

A kite bar must be made from materials that are able to withstand the rigors inherent in kite surfing. As a result, most bars are made from either metal or a composite material. They are often made with floats on the ends of the bar so that it does not sink if dropped in the water.
